Behind each mochila there is a Wayuu weaver proud of being able to tell her culture, values, struggles and history through her manual work. Weaving for Wayuu women is a cultural practice and a heritage from their ancestors. It is also a way of expressing life as they feel and want it. According to the story, it was the spider or Wale ‘Kerü who taught the Wayuu woman to weave the mochila. Wale ‘Kerü is a weaver spider who created mochilas and hammocks.
It takes up to TWO weeks of work for a skilled knitter to create a 100% cotton standard mochila.
